Bio

Melinda Schwartz has earned a reputation for creating and managing award-winning global events and experiential/trade show events and displays. Melinda founded Schwartz Event Marketing, LLC (SEM), to fill a marketplace void – the need for a strong, consistent center cog to the wheel in the event production industry without the large ticket pricing provided by other event planning providers.

Schwartz has a unique understanding of the internal demands and corporate priorities from her 15+ years of marketing experience.  Her expertise and unique blend of professional skills ensure that projects from simple to complex are managed with the same level of detail and organization.   Schwartz offers her clients a personal, hands-on approach to every project.  She provides a keen creative eye and the skillful ability for handling multiple projects, deadlines and competing priorities that deliver results.

SEM’s mission is to offer clients creative solutions while managing projects in a fiscally sound manner, ensuring clients maximize their marketing spend.  Schwartz has strong negotiation skills that guarantee clients consistently meet/exceed budget allocations while projects remain on schedule.  This expertise makes Schwartz a valuable asset to any marketing or communications team.

Prior to SEM, Schwartz was Director, Global Events at Discovery Communications LLC.  She spent more than eleven years supervising Discovery’s event marketing, dimensional branding and associated strategic planning.  Discovery is the number-one nonfictional, media entertainment company known for quality; reaching more than 1.5 billion cumulative subscribers in over 170 countries. Discovery is the parent to some of the top brands in cable television, including the Discovery Channel, TLC, Animal Planet, Health Channel and Discovery Kids.  Schwartz has supervised the marketing and event needs for some of the most successful television launches in the entertainment industry including Animal Planet, Travel Channel, Health Channel, Fit TV, BBC America, and several digital television networks.  She spearheaded the business operations of the Global Events team at Discovery, handling some of the company’s largest revenue-generating exhibits and worldwide events, including NATPE, NCTA, MIP/MIPCOM and Upfront events.  Also during her tenure at Discovery, Schwartz managed the development of print, marketing collateral and other advertising campaigns for many of the network brands.

Discovery Communications is known in each of its businesses to have the best and most creative events, materials and trade show booths; receiving numerous accolades and awards for design, creative and execution.  Melinda is proud to have been a part of that award-winning and renowned reputation for over a decade.

Prior to joining Discovery, Schwartz spent five years working in the construction industry.  She directed the business development and marketing activities for the Mid-Atlantic region at Delon Hampton & Associates, an architectural and engineering firm.  Schwartz also handled marketing and development for a cost-estimating construction firm, Scharf Godfrey, Inc.

Schwartz earned a Bachelor of Science degree with honors from the University of Maryland, College Park.  She currently resides in Maryland, close to the DC-metro area, with her husband, Jim, and two, young and energetic sons, Jack and Dylan.
